The year of the rabbit, the holiday of the rabbit. Dyed some eggs. Fried some zucchini.  The more I read of Just Kids, the worse it gets.  Triple T truckstop, teeth optional. Can stay the night or purchase a blue scrotum to hang from back bumper.

[electric blanket deserves an Ode]
My aesthetics are off: palm trees, stucco….and the weather calls for a fireplace. Arizona, why are you so cold right now? Reading the original desperate housewife (a claim on the inside cover) Madame Bovary and Woolf’s Orlando. Both a bit boring, as well as struggling through too much Harold Bloom. A sunrise here is worth waking up to see-an event! Visitors soon.

Reading the Memoirs of Hadrian, fascinated so far, but I am certain I will lose interest in the book. Plato’s Symposium was fascinating because I had no idea Socrates and his Greek philosopher friends were so into little boys. Must finish Don Quixote. Must finish Don Quixote. Valentine making underway. Rabbit eating my copy of A Lover’s Discourse… Sunsets of Arizona are a...

apologies to the sweet pigs who were fed a vegetarian diet, killed “humanely” and allowed “free range” and then ended up smothered in brown sugar… Reading John D’Agata’s Halls of Fame. Over it already. Enjoying watching old Nikolais dance videos. Totally trippy, and I’m intrigued. Biographies over Christmas break—a guilty must. Warm sunny...

Brandi, you’re a fine girl, what a good wife you would be…. Cheesy music is good for Sundays. Finished Kundera, Barthes, and Bill Bryson’s book on the history of private life. I smell like a potato. Tennessee fall sounds good. I could use the sight of falling leaves. I’m tired of people vomiting.  Cold weather has arrived. It is nice to wear pants.

Fall should come. It only cools off at night. I used to say “October” and now I say, “November…”  It is still so hot during the day. Waffle Sunday=awesome. Also, I do...

my rabbit, the ninja.  she may look fat, but she can fit through tight spaces. I’ve been to home depot and ace hardware and I think I have caged the lion. Homemade marinara is yummo and makes the whole apartment smell good. My orchid is having a beautiful week. I hope it lasts. Power outage problem has been solved by Perry the maintenance man. Surry down to the stoned soul picnic! Nothing is urgent right now, it is nice. This kind of heat is worse. I printed a coupon today. Coupons are cool.  Penelope likes to lay on the tile parts of the floor. The Alphabet in the Park.  Here is a line I enjoy:  Old people spit with absolutely no finesse                                     and bicycles bully traffic on the sidewalk. Sonoran Hot...

My apartment is lacking in storage. Penelope seems to like it. I like it too, but my old place had columns and a view of the Tennessee Valley.  I have a little gated porch and a triple lock on my door here with a gated entrance to the complex. We are on lockdown. All of my books made it. Dad hung my pictures yesterday, and the drapes before leaving for Houston. Penelope and I flew Continental....

the truck is on the way to tucson, carrying my mattress, my clothes, my books, and my parents.  i am dogsitting. Leon, although recently neutered, enjoys humping his stuffed animals. He brings the ruckus. Penelope does not enjoy living at my parents’ house.  It is loud with dogs, construction, alarm beeps, workers entering. She does not like the barking or the hammering. I enjoyed...

The new cuisinart is working splendidly.  It is always a good time for a waffle. The countdown begins. Penelope will be a desert rabbit soon, though I’m not sure if she will fly, drive, or hop.  I checked out BURGER UP and it was delicious. I recommend the quinoa and black bean veggie burger.  I’m reading Octavio Paz, and meandering through his “labyrinth of solitude”...

a gift from a good friend. also, Las Paletas popsicles are the best. finally my finger is looking normal. I will share soon a picture of my new license plate. It features Tennessee Wildlife with red flowers and a hummingbird. I haven’t seen anyone with one like mine. I am going on a hunt tomorrow. Tomorrow: Dad’s 60th. note to self: stay away from rusty garden shears DermaBond is glue that they use instead of stitches. It is a lot like super glue.  Leon is becoming a man of stature. We need big closets, a second bedroom, a balcony, and good locks to keep the javalinas and scorpions out.  Thinking of trading in...

The air feels like walking into a sauna. My glasses fog up, and my body instantly soaks up. Swamp ass. Sweaty eyebrows. Sweaty upper lip. This heat wave is taking its toll. Loved reading Girls Like Us about Carole King, Joni Mitchell, and Carly Simon. I love hearing about their love. I love the seedy details like that Joni was a Scorpio and had a brief love affair with Leonard Cohen. I like...

Self-Improvement  Just before she flew off like a swan  to her wealthy parents’ summer home,  Bruce’s college girlfriend asked him  to improve his expertise at oral sex,  and offered him some technical advice:  Use nothing but his tonguetip  to flick the light switch in his room  on and off a hundred times a day  until he grew fluent at the nuances  of force and latitude.  Imagine him...

in the office next to mine, there is a life-size cardboard cutout of Danica Patrick in her green racing outfit with godaddy.com across the front. there is a putting green. two blue leather chairs, 4 file cabinets, and at least 57 photographs (that I’ve counted) mostly lined up in rows on shelves and tables. the room is crowded and very yellow. recycled 11 lbs of paper. knoxville...

April Fool’s was a good day. We found balloons-and a nozel. We snuck down to the hose. We prepare 15 balloons each. Then, we walked back up to the top deck and called the boys. They came up the narrow stairs and we started launching. It was epic. Lack of sleep and too much travel-Kentucky is a pretty place, but that is all I can say. The trees and hills are like Tennessee, but I’d...

Dress Day
The day of the dresses. It was today. My car said it was 80 outside. I wore shorts and everything. Crabapple trees are amazing. Daffodils popping up.  Introduced the children to oatmeal cookies—they prefer chocolate chip. Tomorrow, even warmer.

Desert
The desert is beautiful at spring—cactus flowers, warm sun.  Melvin, my cab driver, wanted to know about poetry. Full flight + 42 lap sitting babies that did not stay in laps for the 4.5 hour flight to Los Angeles, en route to Tucson. Uncomfortable, loud, dangerous-scotch didn’t cut it.  Mammon: R spoke of javalinas, scary wild pigs. Mainly, we talked about poems and books and how...

the rabbit has a tooth problem, and a very attractive veterinarian. His specialty is “exotics” and Penelope is compliant in his presence. Very out of character.  puppy eats everything, including but not limited to flowers, bark, bottle caps, hands, hair, furniture, trash.  the two dogs miss their family—I am a bad substitute.

Ignoring the phone call—I ignore most phone calls—I checked the voicemail an hour later only to find out I was being offered money to take care of some children. I cook chicken, do the carpool, teach the bratty one how to shuffle cards and make them do that bridge thing, all while the mom is home.  This situation is uncomfortable. I feel there is someone listening and watching as if...

more snow, and cold. Working out at a new place called D1 today. It has grass inside. Watching some Big Love—the women are amazing, really. My amaryllis are doing interesting things—the only bloom that has opened is down low. The others are still closed up and about 2 feet tall… Will finish the 550 piece puzzle today. I am very close.

wonder bread
Today, we went to Arnold’s Country Kitchen for lunch, and it was delicious as usual. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Nashville, especially on Thursdays and Fridays when they have fried green tomatoes. I also obtained an orchid plant today. It is purple and yellow, and I am already certain of its demise in my care. Babysitting tonight until late. Children have a way of really...

snow
it snowed again. I didn’t want to be alone up on this cold hill in the snow. I decided to get in my grey cadillac. I slid down the hill, and once I was at the bottom, I knew I had to go all the way to Destination KG. It began to sleet and I made no sudden movements, avoided slamming on my brakes, and made it to destination with backpack, 2 diet cokes, and the snail. Upon arrival, we decide...
